The Client:
Care Home, Lower Earley, Reading, Berkshire
Background:
Litenow advised on the replacement of the existing light fittings within the communal corridor areas. The 28 Watt 2D fittings were illuminating the corridor and Stairwell areas of this 3 storey building 24 hours a day. Emergency light fittings were not functioning correctly and maintenance costs were increasing dramatically.
Existing Lighting:
- 90 x 28 Watt 2D. (34 Watts per fitting including ballast losses)
- Lamp Life 10000 hours
- Total energy consumption: 3060W.
- 24 hrs per day x 3.06kW x 10p=£7.34 per day
The Problem:
The light fittings were permanently illuminated and heat build up was causing the ballasts, lamps and emergency lighting batteries to fail prematurely.
Corridor and Staircase areas in this home for elderly and vulnerable residents were often left in darkness and maintenance costs were escalating.
Proposed Lighting:
- 68 x ASD Harmony LED fittings with microsensor controlled presence detection in the Corridor Areas (Lamp Life 50,000 Hours)
- 12 x BEG Luxomat Presence detectors in Staircase areas
The Solution:
Litenow replaced the corridor light fittings with high efficiency LED fittings containing integral presence detection. The lights switch on instantly when the area is occupied and dim to 10% of output after approximately 10 minutes. Staircase lights are controlled via presence detectors which switch the lights on and off only whilst the Staircase is in use.
Reduced maintenance and running costs, reliable emergency lighting and a safer brighter environment are the result of this Litenow solution.
