We all have a shared responsibility to reduce our impact on the environment wherever we can, and at home it’s second nature for most of us to recycle waste, and ensure we are consuming energy efficiently. In the workplace too, environmental concerns are a priority, with customers, suppliers, partners and other stakeholders, increasingly expecting the organisations they work with to demonstrate their green credentials in the form of an environmental policy
At Litenow, we’re committed to helping our clients reduce their environmental footprint by using more efficient lighting solutions. Going green makes sound business sense – saving organisations significant amounts of money, at the same time as helping the planet. The green philosophy is not just something we preach – we practice it too, taking any opportunity to improve our own environmental credentials:
- Lamps & fittings
All redundant lamps and fittings are reprocessed in compliance with the Waste Electrical & Electronic Equipment directive (WEEE), and wecan provide a fully documented removal and reprocessing trail for our clients. Most of the new systems we install are energy efficient LED lighting, which means no waste lamps, but many of the old systems we are replacing contain heavy metals such as cadmium and mercury, or hazardous gases like phosphorous, requiring careful disposal. As members of Recolight, we have access to a network of special collection points across the UK.
We are registered with the Environment Agency as a Waste Carrier, and all our vehicles are properly equipped for the safe transportation of redundant lamps to the nearest reprocessing centre.
All our cardboard and waste packaging is sorted to be reused or recycled.
- Our vehicles
All vehicles in our fleet have been selected for their fuel economy and incorporate the latest stop-start technology. (The very latest addition to our fleet is a Euro 5 compliant cherry picker for high level maintenance work – it replaces an older, less efficient vehicle).
- Our office & warehouse
We’ve incorporated a range of eco-friendly technology into our own premises including fitting LED lighting throughout. In our warehouse, lighting is sensor-controlled, automatically coming on when a person enters an area – switching off or dimming when they leave. Our kitchen and toilet facilities also have automated lighting systems, and we avoid heating and storing water unnecessarily by using water heaters that only heat the water we use.
- Our systems
The CASH management software at the centre of our business operations is tailored to our own specifications, bringing a range of benefits that include environmental efficiencies. Among these is a dramatic reduction in the mileage of our field engineers, as data including documentation and images can be instantly transferred digitally rather than having to be physically collected / delivered.
