Home-Start Reading is a local charity offering support to young families when they may be feeling vulnerable or struggling with issues such as family break-up, bereavement, isolation or post-natal depression. They offer a life-line to families when they may be struggling to cope.
Last year the charity worked with over 96 families, including 229 children, they work throughout the Reading borough offering direct 1-1 support by trained volunteers who can offer advice, support and practical help each week. The charity needs over £110,000 each year to deliver its much needed and vital service and they are delighted to announce a charity partnership with Litenow, a local business providing lighting solutions into the commercial sector.
Through advanced lighting technology Litenow work with clients to reduce their cost and environmental impact through installation and maintenance of effective and efficient energy saving products. They offer funding opportunities and work with major blue chip companies and SME’s to save money and energy waste in the commercial sector.
Steve Hiscox the Managing Director of Litenow believes in community engagement and has a passion for making a positive difference in the community he is part of. Steve said “I’m really delighted to be supporting Home-Start Reading this year as part of our social responsibility commitment, when I found out more about the families that are helped and the projects that the charity are developing I felt that they were making a real difference to young families struggling to cope with a range of issues. Home-Start Reading offer direct support to young families who may be vulnerable or in need of a helping hand. Full training is provided to carefully matched volunteers who support parents and families in the home on a 1-1 basis. The charity also offers group support in the most deprived areas of Reading where they offer opportunities to children and families to interact and play and find information and advice from both the charity and health and social professionals in a group setting.
